The Albertus Magnus College Department of Public Safety continually works to ensure that the Campus remains unexposed to threat of loss or injury. It is the mission of the Department of Public Safety to provide campus security services which foster a safe and welcoming learning environment conducive to the mission of Albertus Magnus College, thereby improving the quality of campus life for students, faculty, and staff utilizing the most professional, effective campus safety services. It is important, however, that all members of the Albertus community – students, faculty and staff – contribute to making Albertus Magnus College campus comfortable and secure.
The Albertus Magnus Department of Public Safety provides the following services:
- Security within all Albertus Magnus buildings and Albertus Magnus grounds surveillance 24 hours a day, seven days a week by car and foot patrol.
- Response to all requests for assistance including the Walking Companion service-a security officer accompanying individuals moving about the Campus grounds 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Albertus Emergency Alert System
Albertus Magnus Emergency Alert System is a free mass notification system. It enables Albertus students, faculty and staff to receive alerts and updates through a combination of e-mail, text messaging and phone calls in an emergency situation. This will help to keep participants informed of what is happening and any action that they might need to take. The system is tested each semester to ensure it is in proper working order. The College strongly encourages all students, faculty and staff to sign up for the free Albertus Magnus Emergency Alert System as it MAY be used for:
- Major disaster
- Safety alerts in situations where there is an immediate potential for personal injury
- Health concerns
- Class cancellation due to weather/snow days
EmergenSee Personal Security System App
EmergenSee Personal Safety App instantly streams live video, audio and GPS data to Campus Security, when threatening or potentially dangerous situations are encountered. With just one tap, Campus Security can immediately see, hear and follow an incident as it unfolds, providing them with full situational awareness, getting you the help you need. This is a free service that is available for all Faculty, Staff and Students on the Main Campus.

EmergenSee is designed for use only on campus grounds. Your cell phone location service must be turned on and you need to be in an area with service.
Card Key Access
Residence Hall front doors have card key access. Each resident is assigned a key fob that opens the front door to only their residence hall. Should a resident lose their keys, the key fob can be turned off in seconds. This allows for maximum access control over these doors. In an emergency, doors on this system may be locked or unlocked with a few clicks of the mouse.
Every residence hall has a sprinkler system and a fire alarm detection system. Evacuation routes are posted in each resident room and common areas. Fire drills are conducted in the residence halls at least once a semester.
Vehicles on Campus
All students on campus who intend to operate a motor vehicle on campus must register the vehicle. The registration decal must be affixed in the lower right hand corner of the rear window of the vehicle. The transfer, exchange, misuse, or reproduction of the decal is unauthorized. Individuals parking a car on College property does so at his or her own risk.
Partnership with City of New Haven Police Department
The College has a strong partnership with the City of New Haven Police Department (NHPD). During the evening hours, seven days a week while classes are in session, the College has a NHPD Officer on campus to work alongside of Security. The Police Office has the authority to issue City of New Haven tickets and has full arrest powers.
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
The Annual Security Report is completed each year by Albertus Magnus College in compliance with federal and state regulations (Clery Act and Higher Education Act). These required policies and criminal statistics are collected and compiled by the Department of Public Safety and Department of Student Services into the annual Security Report and published by Albertus Magnus College. Albertus Magnus College is required by law to make policy, criminal statistics and information available to the College community and prospective students and employees. The Annual Security Report is available on the Albertus Magnus College website. Printed copies of this report are available upon request from the Department of Public Safety.
